Location: Various vacancies due to promotions across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole

Build a rewarding social work career by the coast

Join BCP Council and help adults with long-term conditions live safely, independently and on their own terms.

A role where excellent social work can make a visible difference

We are looking for experienced, qualified and Social Work England-registered social workers to join our Long-Term Conditions teams across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. You will work alongside adults aged 18 and over, their carers and families, using your professional judgement and strengths-based practice to understand what matters, build on existing networks and agree proportionate support. This is an opportunity to do purposeful work, develop your practice and be part of a service that values relationship-based social work.

Why choose BCP Council?

Meaningful, person-led practice: Put people at the centre of assessment and planning, focus on their strengths and support them to achieve outcomes that matter in their everyday lives.
Varied and professionally stretching work: Build expertise across Care Act practice, safeguarding, mental capacity, positive risk, rights-based work and court processes, supported by skilled colleagues and partner agencies.
Support to do your best work: Benefit from approachable managers, regular reflective and restorative supervision, team huddles and peer-reflection spaces where good practice and professional curiosity are encouraged.
Room to grow: Develop through continuing professional development, Research in Practice, links with Bournemouth University and internal opportunities to broaden your experience. BCP roles sit within defined pay bands, providing a clear framework for career progression.
More than a salary: BCP Council’s employment offer includes access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, generous annual leave, wellbeing and employee assistance support, staff discounts, learning opportunities and salary-sacrifice schemes, subject to the relevant terms and eligibility.

You will also work in a distinctive coastal area that brings together lively urban centres, established communities, beaches and green spaces. With services spanning Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, you can build broad local knowledge and work with a diverse range of people, communities and professional partners.

What you will do

You will support people living with long-term conditions to live well in the community. You will work collaboratively with their carers, families and wider networks. You will undertake strengths-based assessments, identify and manage risk, support proportionate care and support planning, and work with colleagues across health, housing, community and voluntary services. Throughout, you will champion people’s rights, choice, independence and inclusion while meeting your statutory and professional responsibilities.

Flexibility and wellbeing

We welcome conversations about full-time, part-time and flexible working. Our agile hybrid approach combines home working, where the role allows, with access to office hubs across the BCP area and time in the community. We want colleagues to have a sustainable work-life balance, feel valued and be able to excel in the services they provide.

Could this be your next move?

If you want to bring your experience to an ambitious, supportive council and make a tangible difference in a beautiful and varied part of the country, we would be pleased to hear from you. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the advert may close early if there is a strong response.

Please read the Job Description before completing your application. Use your supporting information to show clearly how your experience meets the listed core essential criteria, and include details of your social work qualification and Social Work England registration number.

Accepted professional qualifications include:

Diploma in Social Work (DipSW)
BSc / BA Social Work (BSc/BASW)
Masters in Social Work (MSW)
Social Work Degree Apprenticeship (SWDA)
Equivalent overseas qualification

Returning to social work? We would welcome a conversation about your experience and the support that may help you return to practice with confidence.
